Scarborough Open Air Theatre’s annual concert series attendance record has been broken for the third year running, according to promoter Cuffe and Taylor.

More than 82,000 people have purchased tickets for concerts at the 7,500-seat venue this summer, which features performances by Britney Spears, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Il Divo and Gary Barlow.

The series commenced with a performance by Lionel Richie on 19 June.

Cuffe and Taylor, which have programmed the venue’s events since 2016, says it expects more than 100,000 tickets to be sold for shows this year.

“I am delighted to hear that ticket sales have already topped last year’s results, which just goes to show that our decision to carry out work to increase the venue’s capacity [by 1,000] was the right one to take,” saus Scarborough Borough Council leader CDerek Bastiman.
