LIGHTING DESIGNER Lee Stennett says he wanted to reinforce John Barrowman’s natural glamour for the variety singer’s Fabulous tour, which visited venues including Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall (cap. 2,475), Birmingham’s Symphony Hall (2,250) and London’s Savoy Theatre (1,150).
Running both lighting and video on a grandMA2 lite console, Stennett’s positioned Martin MAC Viper Profiles, MAC Aura XB washes and Showtec Sunstrips on each side of the front truss, with a floor package of Vari-Lite VL3000s.
The visuals formed part of a complete production package provided by Entec Sound & Light, which offered tour/production manager Steve Rayment a simple solution.
“A single source production service is ideal for this kind of tour,” says Rayment. “It’s one phone call, not three, and Entec takes complete responsibility over the whole package of sound, lighting and video.”
The company supplied a d&b audio system comprising 10 d&b V8 and two V12 cabinets per side at most venues, with J-SUBS, run from a Digico SD12 deesk.
“John tours with a seven-piece backing band along with eight channels of QLab playback running from a Mac Mini for which the Entec warehouse built a special rack.” says audio technician Jake Brennan. “We’re up to around 44 input channels including ambient mic inputs.”
