MORE THAN 1,300 cars were destroyed after a fire ripped through the multi-storey car park used by Liverpool’s Echo Arena (cap. 11,000) on New Year’s Eve.

The fire, believed to have started accidentally in a car engine, took place as the arena, which is next to the car park, staged the final performance of Liverpool International Horse Show. No-one was seriously injured.

Venue operators ACC Liverpool Group has confirmed the arena’s events programme will continue unaffected, apart from the car parking problem.

“As Liverpool Waterfront Car Park is closed until further notice, we are looking at alternative parking arrangements for forthcoming events,” says CEO of ACC Bob Prattey.

Upcoming concerts feature The Script, Paloma Faith and Jethro Tull.
