FOCUS WALES (FW), Wrexham’s multi-venue showcase festival and conference which last year welcomed around 8,500 visitors, including 150 delegates, has announced a slew of artistes and speakers for its 2018 edition.
Founder Neal Thompson says the event, which will in particular make use of the new multi-million-pound ‘arts hub’ space (cap. 400) in the town’s centre, will show significant growth.
“We’ve still to announce some additional international partners and keynote speakers, but it’s great to be able to talk about the likes of Martin Elbourne [Glastonbury Festival] and Sol Parker [Coda] on the conference side, and to field a huge range of artistes from Kate Rusby to Gengahr and This is the Kit,” he says.
“It definitely feels like a step up from last year.”
Thompson notes that at its heart, FW has grown as a proudly Welsh event, and while finding acts for 2018, a huge emphasis was placed on sourcing music from across the country.
“We’ll see representation from every corner of Wales,” he says. “We’re highlighting the best of Welsh talent regardless of where it’s made, and that includes instrumental works as well as Welsh-language acts.
“We’re a bilingual festival, and in fact won a tourism award for our bi-lingual app last year, which we’re hoping to replicate this time around.”
Earlybird tickets are available from £35 for the weekend, £60 for priority delegate passes. FW is held from 10-12 May.
