News
22 December 2020

WORK WILL begin In March on the new 12,500-capacity arena in Gateshead’s quayside, adjacent to the Millennium bridge over the River Tyne.

The £260 million development of the site has been approved by Gateshead Council and will include conference and exhibition centre, restaurants, a hotel and the arena, to be operated by ASM Global.

The project is a joint venture between developer Ask Real Estate and investment manager PATRIZIA.

The venue is expected to open in late 2023, and once complete, will replace Newcastle’s Utilita Arena (11,250) on the other side of the river, also operated by ASM Global.

“We have enjoyed over 25 years of success in the North East [as SMG]] and we look forward to leveraging our global and local partnerships with leading entertainment, sports, corporate, convention and exhibition event producers, to cement Newcastle Gateshead’s reputation as a sought-after business, leisure and cultural destination,” says Tom Lynch, ASM Global director of business development, Europe.

ASM was formed when SMG and AEG Facilities merged in 2019.
