EVOLUTION EMERGING, Generator’s festival, held in numerous venues across Newcastle, has for the first time added a free conference programme at Sage (cap. 300) in Gateshead.
Talent development manager Charlie Dancer says that the conference will be largely aimed at emerging artistes, but notes that it will also be applicable to anyone in the industry or those running music-related businesses.
“We’ve got a full day with a couple of halls running simultaneously, and the programme deals with pretty much everything that an artiste might currently have on their mind, whether that be revenue streams, strategy or mental health,” he says.
“We’ve got straightforward talks, but also panel discussions and roundtable events, the latter setup as speed dating/networking for the industry.”
Dancer notes that the conference will tackle practical advice for emerging acts as well as bigger-picture themes.
“We’re looking at tips for touring artistes in terms of how they work with the venues they perform in, and the relationship between the acts and the booking agents,” he adds.
“But then in contrast to that we’re discussing mental health in collaboration with Help Musicians UK.”
The one-day event on 9 June will also host speakers representing Musician’s Union, PRS for Music, BPI, PPL, the Music Managers Forum, Music Glue and Sentric Music.
