Hall ready for £20m revamp

Hall For Cornwall

TRURO’S HALL For Cornwall (cap. 965) is to undergo a £20 million renovation after securing the final investment required.

The refurbishment, which has been planned for six years, will see the venue’s three-tiered auditorium redesigned, increasing capacity to 1,354 seats and improving sightlines.

New bars and cafes will also be created on either side of the building and wheelchair accessibility enhanced.

Funding for the work has come from a range of organisations including Arts Council England, granting £5m, Cornwall Council (£3.19m) and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership (£2m).

“Over the last two decades, our venue has played an important part in raising the standards and expectations of performance in Cornwall,” says CEO and creative director Julien Boast.

“Having worked closely with many partners and members of the public to develop our ambitious rebuild plans, we are confident that we can deliver a world class venue that Cornwall deserves and that the community will be proud of in the years to come.”

As part of the project the Hall will close in early June, and is expected to reopen at the beginning of 2020.

Acts to have played the venue include Coldplay, Keane, 10cc and Morrisey, while forthcoming shows feature Belle and Sebastian and The Hollies.
