Building emerging careers - ATC Live, London

E:

cecile@atc-live.com

Artiste roster:

Big Freedia, John Smith, Sam Lee, Mbongwana Star, Mammut, Jalen N’Gonda, Brooke Bentham

Favourite venues for showcasing/playing:

Golden Slippers and Huw Stephens Present at the Social, both London, and Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavik.

Importance of playing live:

“For young bands, it’s super important. It’s by playing live that they will become a ‘real’ band and find their voices as musicians. I would really encourage young bands to play shows in their local scene and start growing their fanbase. “Once you have a really great live show, go and play across the country.”

Other emerging acts to watch:

Stella Donnely

Greatest lesson learned:

“Sometimes, it’s better to say no to a festival or a show if you are not ready. In the early days, playing live might still cost you money, especially for support slots, so carefully think on whether this is the right thing for your career at this stage.”

Worst live experience:

“I have seen bands play to literally four people including me and their manager, which was really tough for them. But they did the show, remaining professional and each time, something positive came out of it.”

Current live projects:

Big Freedia, Jalen N’Gonda, Aadae
