US SINGER Halsey based the stage of her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom tour around a central LED staircase designed to show off her fluid movement around the stage according to lighting director and operator Jose Antunes.
When she visited the UK for a date at London’s Eventim Apollo (cap. 5,050), her management wanted recreate her US set, designed for arenas, as closely as possible and invited Blackburn-based HSL to provide production and additional crew.
“When touring different versions of the design it is imperative to keep the lighting rig the same to preserve the integrity,” says Antunes. “HSL was able to match the US floor package exactly.”
This comprised eight Claypaky Scenius Profiles, Robe Spiiders positioned on the sides of the steps for low level cross light, all originally specified by production designers Sooner Routhier and Robert Long of SRae Productions.
“The stair Spiiders provided excellent side washes for Halsey and her dancer, and were also ideally placed to fan out into the crowd,” says Antunes. “The upstage Scenius’s created beautiful, dreamy beams and aerial effects, making the set look massive and powerful.”
