Nile Rodgers Meltdown

20 May 2019

THE SOUTHBANK Centre’s annual Meltdown festival, to run from 3 to 11 August, will have a lineup selected by producer, musician and songwriter Nile Rodgers.

The 26th edition of the event, which in the past has been curated by artistes including David Bowie, Robert Smith, Ray Davies, M.I.A. and Patti Smith, will take place at the arts complex’s Royal Festival Hall (cap. 2,100), Queen Elizabeth Hall (750) and Purcell Room (250)  venues.

Among the first acts to be confirmed for Meltdown, which will consist of ticketed and free events, are Thundercat, Sophie, Songhoy Blues and Alfa Mist.

Nile Rodgers & CHIC will open the festival on 3 August and the performance will be followed by a Studio 54-themed club night in the Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer.

“My prime motivation was to present incredible music from all walks of life that would make everybody dance,” says Rodgers.
