BEARDED THEORY, the 9,999-capacity festival held in Walton Upon Trent, Derbyshire, is looking for numerous acts to populate a new unsigned stage.

Applications to 2018’s festival, held 24-27 May, will be vetted by music industry education initiative Academy of Music and Sound.

“It’s the first year we’ve worked with Bearded Theory festival, and that not only involves giving the 16-19 year olds on our program a chance to gain experience working on the stage and handling technical challenges, but additionally picking out 33 different acts to play over the course of the three days,” says head of digital marketing Louise Schofield.

“We’ve already had around 700 submissions, and applications won’t be closed until the 31 December. It’s quite an overwhelming response – we’ve already started listening to get ahead of the huge amount of time it will take to find the winners, who’ll be contacted in January.”

Schofield says that the wealth of submissions means that there’ll certainly be variety in the final line-up, but notes that the festival’s own unique style will influence decisions.

“We’re trying to make sure that our choices are in keeping with the spirit of Bearded Theory – so acts that will be suitably for a family festival,” she says.

Acts playing the festival include Fun Lovin Criminals, Sleaford Mods and The Jesus and Mary Chain.
