Scarborough set for more open air shows

4 October 2017

SCARBOROUGH OPEN Air Theatre could hold as many as 20 live shows next year after Live Nation Entertainment (LNE), the parent company of promoter Cuffe and Taylor (C&T), signed a new 10-year deal with the venue’s owner.

The agreement with Scarborough Borough Council comes after more than 75,000 people attended 14 shows, including Jess Glynne, Olly Murs, Little Mix and The Beach Boys this year – an increase of 50 per cent on 2016

Preston-based C&T, which was acquired by LNE earlier this year (see LIVE UK issue 205), exclusively programmed all live events at the venue last year  and will continue to do so.

“Our partnership with the council has worked very well in the last two years and this new deal enables all parties to plan even better for the future,” says C&T director Peter Taylor.

“The theatre is now on the map, with not only British artistes but major international stars too.”

Discussions with the council are underway to increase the capacity from 5,454 seated to 7,456, or 7,900 standing, by finding a permanent solution to covering the lake in front of the stage. The water was covered by temporary decking this summer.

“We are now working not only on next year’s line-up but on 2019 and beyond,” says Taylor.
