Starworks closed after fire, prompting Blackstock departure

Starworks fire

WOLVERHAMPTON’S Starworks (cap. 4,000) has been closed after a fire left the building badly damaged and heavily smoke-logged.

More than 40 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze on 16 May. As a result shows including Reload Wonderland and Wonderland were cancelled.

Mark Blackstock, who was recently appointed manager of Starworks (see LIVE UK issue 220), has also left venue, with no date on when it will reopen.

“Aspects of the building were badly fire damaged and there was a lot of smoke damage,” Blackstock, who previously spent two decades as the general manager of Wolverhampton Civic Halls (3,000), tells LIVE UK.

“Sadly the fire has meant that the venue had to close for a couple of months, thus there was not the income to support the staff roster.”

No-one was injured in the fire which is still under investigation.
