AFTER A period as a division of French construction multi-national the Altrad Group, Star Events has been purchased by British event industry entrepreneur David Walley.

The 40-plus-year-old staging, rigging and structures specialist, which supplies clients such as British Summer Time (cap. 65,000), Adele and the Spice Girls, joins a stable of businesses brought together by Walley last year to help sponsors better reach live music and event audiences (see sister publication Festival, issue 36).

Formerly of temporary structures companies Arena Group and De Boer, Walley also bought staff supplier Beautiful Minds, festival sponsorship and brand adviser Blue Peg, and event production business Mobile Promotions.

“Star is one of the great names of the UK events industry,” says Walley. “They have an inspiring legacy and are both trusted and innovative. We are looking forward to integrating them into the business and adding value to all of our clients.”

Star Events founder Roger Barrett adds, “I’ve worked alongside David on major projects for more than 20 years. This move will significantly increase the services we can offer our clients.”
